Lights Out Lit Up Birchwood Park — And Minneapolis Hoopers Showed Up Big

If you were anywhere near Birchwood Park in SLP last week, you probably saw it before you heard it: a basketball court glowing electric blue and red under the night sky, packed with kids, parents, and hoopers who came out for one reason — Lights Out, Glo Ball's after-dark glow basketball event.

We built the Lights Out Kit and Lights Out Team Kit to turn an ordinary neighborhood court into something kids beg to go back to. Birchwood Park proved the concept works.

A Court Transformed After Sundown

As the sun went down, the court transformed. Every ball on the asphalt was rigged with our rechargeable LED lights, and every hoop got the same glow-up treatment. Within minutes of tip-off, the park had that unmistakable buzz — phones out, siblings courtside, parents posted up on the sidelines watching their kids play under lights instead of headed home for bedtime.

That's the whole idea behind a light up basketball night: take the game kids already love and make it impossible to look away from.

Why Birchwood Park Was the Perfect Home Court

Birchwood Park's court sits right in the heart of a Minneapolis neighborhood that's no stranger to pickup runs and evening games, which made it an ideal launch site for our first full Lights Out event. The turnout told us everything we needed to know: 5th through 10th graders showing up in groups, parents sticking around to watch instead of dropping and going, and a level of energy on the court that's hard to manufacture with a regular ball and a regular hoop.

Minneapolis has no shortage of great outdoor courts, but Birchwood gave us the space, the lighting conditions, and the neighborhood turnout to prove that glow basketball isn't a gimmick — it's a genuinely better way to spend a summer night on the court.

What Made It Special

• Glow-in-the-dark play, no floodlights required. Our rechargeable LED basketball kits meant the game itself was the light source.
• A crowd that skewed young — and stayed engaged. Our core audience of middle-school-aged hoopers turned out exactly as we hoped, with parents cheering from the sidelines.

What's Next for Lights Out

Birchwood Park was just the beginning. We're already scouting the next Lights Out pop-up event, with a strong look at courts in St. Louis Park for early September — including conversations with local parks programming to make it another free, family-friendly night under the lights.
